A particularly memorable era was the period between 1852 and 1889 where many kings and emperors decided to make Bad Kissingen their social meeting point for the summer season. Even then it was well known that it was possible to combine health and well-being with pleasure and entertainment.
Other famous visitors include the poet Theodor Fontane, Viktor von Scheffel, the author Leo Tolstoi, the artist Adolph von Menzel, the composers Gioacchino Rossini and Richard Strauss and the German federal presidents Heuss and Lübke, the author George Bernhard Shaw and the astronaut Neil Armstrong. Now it is the order of the day that politicians spend time here on business or reside here as guests.
If you take a look at the map of the town you will notice just how proud Bad Kissingen is of all the personalities that made the town famous. Many roads, buildings and monuments have been named after famous visitors, architects and discoverers.
