A historical walk around the town
Follow the trail of bygone royalty by taking a stroll around Bad Kissingen’s most significant sights. The best place to start would probably be the “Regentenbau” and from there through the length of the “Arkadenbau” (built from 1834-1838) to the “Wandelhalle” and “Brunnenhalle” (both erected in 1911) in the “Kurgarten” area. From here you can cross the footbridge over the Saale river and easily reach the spacious Luitpoldpark.

A great deal of thought and detail has gone into a special segment of the park, known as the “sensation garden” area. Here you can test your five faculties of perception – seeing, hearing, tasting, feeling and smelling; it includes a lawn labyrinth, on which you walk bare-foot along a winding path which continuously alters its structure, a Kneipp-basin set in a aromatic herbal garden and a sound garden set in the midst of a wood clearing where you can spend time meditating or listen to the chimes that have been creatively hung among the branches of the trees at various heights.

Altes RathausAfter exploring the Luitpoldpark you can walk past the casino and into the splendidly set “Rosengarten” (rose garden). In summer the garden is especially pleasing with its impressive fan-shaped fountain set in an ocean of fragrant blooms. It is only a short distance to the oldest section of town where you can find the impressive “Altes Rathaus” (old town hall) on the market square, whose function has been changed to that of a tourist information centre. Nowadays the municipal building is the “Lochner-Heußlein Schloß” built alongside the cobbled Rathaus square, where you can also find a water fountain dedicated to the minstrel Otto von Botenlauben (1175-1233). Segments of the towns walls are jotted around the outskirts of the old town quarter and the last of fourteen look-out towers – the fire tower, built in the fourteenth century can still be admired at the top end of the “Turmgasse”.

Stretch your legs along the “Salinenpromenade” beside the Saale river to the outskirts of town and take in the sights of the beautiful countryside along the way. Among other things you can inhale the vapours of the “Gradierbau” which was originally used for the process of filtering salt. Not far from here is a statue marking the remembrance of Otto von Bismarck.
