Kurgarten (Spa Garden)
Traditionally the centre of social spa life, the ‘Kurgarten’ (Spa Garden) today is a popular meeting place for guests and local residents. It has an area of 2 ha and has the ‘Regentenbau’ (Regent’s Building), the ‘Arkaden’ (Arcades) and the`Wandelhalle’ (Central Foyer) along its borders. In 1834, King Ludwig I commissioned not only the construction of the ‘Arkaden’ but also the parks, gardens and tree-lined avenues as well. Today, he can admire the changes in the blossoms from his pedestal, since
the flowerbeds, potted plants and flowerpots are replanted three times a year, depending on the season. When the weather is good, you can hear the music of the spa orchestra from the orchestra shell when it is turned outwards – while you watch the comings and goings from the ‘Kurgarten Cafe’.
