With a length of 90m and a surface area of 2640m², the ‘Wandelhalle’ (central foyer) is the largest of its kind in Europe. It was built between 1910 and 1911 in only eight months according to plans by the architect Max Littmann. With its interior divided into three naves by rows of columns, it is designed like a basilica. The construction is made entirely of reinforced concrete and was considered at the time to be just as innovative as the orchestra shell, which can be rotated outwards into the ‘Kurgarten’ (spa garden). The ‘Wandelhalle’ is also perfect for galas and events.
Brunnenhalle
This part of the ‘Wandelhalle’ houses the famous twin springs of Rakoczy and Pandur. Even today, ‘Brunnenfrauen’ (female assistants) pour out the medicinal waters several times a day. While you are consciously drinking the water, you can ‘wander’ through the large hall.
